How the Horizontal Layout Lets a Horizontal All-in-One Diesel Air Heater Fit Under Benches

Benches, bunks, and storage lockers create long, low, flat cavities that no upright heater can fill. The horizontal all-in-one diesel air heater is shaped precisely for these spaces, lying flat like a shoebox and slipping under a seat or work surface. This layout principle is the reason horizontal units are so common in conversions where headroom matters more than floor area.
The Low, Wide Box Shape
Instead of stacking parts vertically, a horizontal all-in-one unit arranges the combustion chamber, fan, and electronics side by side along a low casing. The result is a box maybe 10 centimeters tall but 40 to 50 centimeters long, which tucks under a bench where a vertical unit would stick up and block the seating. The warm air outlet sits at one end, pointing toward the area being heated.
Airflow That Follows the Horizontal Run
Cold air enters through a low side grille and travels across the heat exchanger in a straight, short path before exiting at the far end. This straight-through airflow keeps fan noise and resistance low, which suits the shallow duct runs under furniture. Combustion air and exhaust take a short horizontal route to a nearby wall or floor outlet, avoiding long vertical pipe climbs.
Planning the Under-Bench Install
Measure the clearance under the bench before ordering, leaving a few centimeters for the casing, the hot exhaust fitting, and the fuel line. Keep the service cover accessible by positioning the unit so it slides out toward an open end of the bench. With the box hidden beneath the work surface, the room loses no usable floor space and gains quiet, even warmth across the seating area. Leaving the bench hinge or floor panel removable means future filter changes do not require unbolting the heater itself. It also helps to route the exhaust so it exits near the end of the box, because a long pipe hidden under the bench is awkward to inspect once the furniture is bolted back in place.
