What Budget Range Should I Expect for a Horizontal All-in-One Diesel Air Heater?

2026-10-14 17:20:28

When budgeting for a horizontal all-in-one diesel air heater, the unit price is only one part of the total. Accessories, installation consumables, and ongoing fuel all contribute to the real cost. Breaking the estimate into parts helps buyers avoid choosing on headline price alone and then being surprised by extras.

The Unit Itself by Output

Smaller 2 kilowatt to 3 kilowatt horizontal units sit at the lower end of the price range, suitable for compact cabs and small rooms. Mid-range 5 kilowatt units cost more because they use a larger burner and fan, and they suit full-size cabs and container offices. The price difference reflects the heat exchanger size, pump precision, and control electronics rather than packaging alone.

Accessories That Add Up

A complete install usually needs a fuel line and fittings, an auxiliary tank or a tank pickup, exhaust and intake pipes with seals, mounting brackets, a hot-air duct, and often a wireless remote. Some kits bundle these, while others sell them separately. When comparing prices, check what is included: a cheap kit missing the tank or duct can cost more overall than a slightly dearer complete set.

Ongoing Running Cost

Once installed, the main recurring cost is the diesel burned over winter, typically a liter or two per night of use. Plan also for a replacement filter and, occasionally, a glow plug or pump over the years. A unit that includes a clear control display and a parts list on the casing often saves workshop time later, which is worth considering when the quoted prices are close. Asking the supplier what the heater is built with, rather than only the box price, reveals whether later filters and glow plugs are readily available. A unit that costs a little more up front but uses common, easy-to-source parts often works out cheaper over several winters than a low-price model whose spares have to be ordered from far away.
