What Floor Clearance Does a Vertical All-in-One Diesel Air Heater Need?

2026-10-14 17:05:25

Planning a mounting spot for a vertical all-in-one diesel air heater means leaving more space than the box itself occupies. Hot surfaces, exhaust fittings, air ducts, and a service cover all need breathing room, and squeezing the unit against a wall invites overheat shutdowns and awkward maintenance. A few measured clearances make the install clean and durable.

Minimum Clearance Around the Casing

Leave at least 5 to 10 centimeters of open space on the sides where combustion air enters and where the display faces, so the controller does not read false heat from nearby panels. The rear face that bolts to the floor or wall can sit flush, but keep the hot exhaust fitting on the underside away from fuel lines and wiring. Most manufacturers recommend 30 to 50 millimeters of air gap around the exhaust pipe itself before it meets any surface.

Height and Duct Considerations

Because the unit stands upright, check the headroom above it: the warm air outlet often points up or to the side, and a hot-air hose needs a gentle bend rather than a sharp kink. Plan for a duct run of no more than about 1.5 meters with a couple of smooth bends, otherwise airflow drops and the heater cycles to protect the exchanger. Also allow space to slide the intake filter out from its slot without removing the whole unit.

Heat Shielding and Fire Safety

When mounting on a wood or composite floor, place a metal heat shield plate between the base and the surface, and route the exhaust pipe well clear of plastic floor liners. Mark the service cover so it stays reachable after installation, since the glow plug and burner sit behind it. With these gaps respected, the vertical heater fits neatly into a corner under a bunk while running safely out of the way.
