Can a Vertical All-in-One Diesel Air Heater Run Reliably Through a -30C Garage Night?

An unheated garage at minus thirty degrees is among the harshest environments a heater faces. A vertical all-in-one diesel air heater can work there, but reliability depends on preparation rather than the unit alone. The limits come from fuel, battery, and frost rather than the burner design.
The Fuel Problem at Deep Cold
At such temperatures ordinary diesel gels quickly, and even winter grade may reach its limit. A heater starved of fuel will light and then die. Running a blend rated for the expected low temperature and keeping the tank full reduces condensation that freezes in the lines.
Battery and Glow Performance
Cold saps a battery's capacity, just when the glow plug needs extra power to ignite. A weak battery may fail the warm-up cycle. A fully charged, larger battery, kept as warm as practical near the unit, gives the glow plug the current it needs to reach ignition temperature on the first attempt.
Setup That Survives the Night
Routing the exhaust so condensation cannot pool and freeze, clearing the intake of snow, and starting the heater indoors before moving the vehicle all help. With winter fuel, a strong battery, and clear ducts, the unit can hold a garage workshop or cabin at livable temperature through a prolonged deep-cold night.
Warming the Vehicle Before the Night
Starting from a warm cabin, rather than heating from a frozen shell, dramatically eases the heater's job. Running the unit while setting up camp, and again for a short period before bed, brings the walls and furniture up to temperature. Once those surfaces hold warmth, the low burn rate can maintain it through the night without working hard.
A frozen battery and a frosted tank are harder to fix once the vehicle is parked. Pre-warming on shore power, or after a drive, and parking in a sheltered spot, removes the coldest edge so the heater can do the manageable work of holding comfort rather than building it from nothing.
